iOS 27 Is Out: What’s New and Whether You Should Update
Apple released iOS 27 on 14 September with security fixes and new Siri features, followed by iOS 27.0.1. What to know before you update.
Apple released iOS 27 on 14 September 2026, alongside updates for its other platforms. It is a free update for supported iPhones and includes security fixes as well as new features.
What’s new
- Siri: a new AI-powered Siri arrives as a beta in English, with more languages planned from October, according to Apple.
- Apple Intelligence: available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 models and later.
- Performance: Apple says apps launch faster on supported devices.
- Security: Apple’s security notes list fixes for a range of vulnerabilities.
Which iPhones can install it?
According to MacRumors, iOS 27 supports the iPhone 11 and later, plus the iPhone SE (2nd generation) and newer. Apple also released iOS 26.7 on the same day with security fixes for people who stay on iOS 26 for now.
iOS 27.0.1
On 28 September Apple followed up with iOS 27.0.1, which MacRumors reports fixes a bug that could make Face ID restart on iPhone 18 Pro models. If you have been waiting for early fixes, this is a sensible time to update.
Before you update
- Back up to iCloud or a computer first.
- Connect to Wi-Fi and a charger; large updates can take a while.
- Check that the apps you rely on for work or banking support the new version.
